This LEED Gold extensive addition engages nature through an openness of well measured daylighting and exterior views. The embedded lighting throughout reflects the Unitarian Society’s long relationship with traditional weaving by designing locally made custom fabric pendants and woven patinaed copper strip sconces to emphasize this ongoing communal spirit.
The main hall ethereal lighting system accentuates Frank Lloyd Wright’s signature “Navaho Red” floor colouring thereby imparting a warm glow throughout the space and reinforces the Society’s history of weaving with a textured slatted wood wall treatment which also functions as an acoustical bafflement. This project received an IES Illumination Awards’ Award of Merit.
